We believe in data and the positive impact it can have on our business. To keep data discoverable we are establishing a ‘Data Catalog’, which will be critical for our new Distributed Data Architecture. We need your help to grow and improve the application while cooperating with an established open source community.
Why?
To make KPN a more data-driven company. Within our new architecture it is essential that data remains discoverable and usable for all data consumers. The Data Catalog will be key in supporting this process.
Where?
We work 3 days from home, and 1-2 days at our office in Amsterdam Sloterdijk. We use our office workdays for the regular scrum events (review, refinement, etc…) and creative brainstorms. In the office we share a room with three other scrum teams on the same floor, which are all focused on different aspects of data.
Team?
We are a growing team with currently 2 developers, a Product Owner and a Scrum Master.

Within the data office department of KPN we have adapted Agile and work according to the Scrum methodology. Responsibilities:
Translates operational requirements into robust technological solutions.
Leading in the Design, building, and testing of new services and extending existing services.
Being an active part of the “DataHub - Metadata platform” opensource community, following developments and opportunities for KPN.
Develops and maintains the infrastructure of the tool, while supporting other teams in finding the best way to onboard their metadata.
Collaborates with others on the project, in- or outside of the team, to brainstorm about the best ways to tackle a complex problem.
Providing the necessary service metrics to be able to monitor the system.
Education, Experience, and Licensing Requirements:
As an engineer, ideally you possess the following qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or other area of academic study (IT experience can substitute for a Bachelor’s Degree)
Programming experience in Python (2-3 years)
DevOps mindset
Understanding of database systems (SQL or NoSQL)
Knowledge of computer networking (TCP/IP, Firewalls, DNS, SSL, …)
Understanding of Operating System concepts
Understanding of Unix/Linux operating systems
AWS knowledge - preferable certification (developer or data Engineer)
Extra assets are:
Hands-on experience with data processing frameworks such as Kafka, datahubproject.io
Experience with GitOps (Flux) is a plus
Hands-on experience with cloud platforms like AWS, Azure or GCP
Affinity with the Agile development methodology open-source software and concepts such as CI/CD
